The Beast 2025: Run 10 in the Fen

On The Day: Sun 19th Oct

PARKING

If you have to drive there is parking on site and at the Primary School nearby, if necessary, but this is limited. If you park on local roads, please park considerately allowing for access to driveways and traffic flow. Do not park on ‘The Brook’ as this is the main through road and part of the run takes place along here also. The race village is on the field behind the British Legion. Postcode CB6 2QQ.  If you are local – please walk or cycle up if possible.

REGISTRATION

Opens at 9 am, please pick your race number up from the registration desk. Remember to fill in all the details on the reverse of your number – THIS IS FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY. Pens and Safety pins will be provided. The race chip will already be attached to the race number, please do not adjust (or put pins through it!) as otherwise, it may not record your time properly.

CHANGING/TOILETS

Male and female changing rooms and toilets are in the Pavilion and will be clearly marked.

BAG

There will be an area inside clearly signed to drop your bag off although it is still left at your own risk and will not be manned.

ENQUIRIES

Just ask at the registration desk or any of the marshals or volunteers around if you need assistance. They will be happy to help.

WARM UP

The aerobics warm up will start at 10.40AM

START AND EN ROUTE

Please be sensible where you line up, e.g. if your finish time is likely to be over an hour, please line up towards the back to avoid bumping and accidental falls. Also take it steady at the start until the field spreads out.

10k starts at 11am.  The 5K runners will start 5 minutes after the 10K runners so please go to the back and wait to be called forward.

Remember that pedestrians using the footpaths have priority so give way to them.

Run on the pavement/path until you are well down into Sutton Gault as the roads will not be closed for this event. BE AWARE OF TRAFFIC. Take all the necessary precautions to protect yourselves from the risk associated with running on the public highway.

Be particularly aware of cars coming out of driveways, and to give way to them. Warn other runners.

Do not to react to any intimidation from road users and to act with courtesy.

Other road and footpath users have right of way, and you must always act sensibly and safely. Yours and fellow runners’ safety is more important than race time!

Follow the Highway code.

In ear headphones must NOT be worn. – only UKA approved bone conductors

If marshals’ instructions are ignored and safety is put at risk, you will be disqualified as yours and your fellow runners’ and volunteers’ safety is paramount.

How tough this course depends largely on the weather. However, the ground is quite rough along much of the route and is exposed particularly down in Sutton Gault. The route can get extremely muddy/slippy/wet etc so be prepared!

There will be a map at HQ for you to look at in more detail prior to the race but marshals will be on hand for guidance and your safety. Please listen to their instructions.

WATER STATIONS

10k entrants: You will pass a water station twice on route with bottled water.

5k entrants: There will be water at the beginning and end of your race. Please feel free to take water with you.

MARSHALS AND MEDICAL

The event is fully marshalled and medically covered at the finish and along route.

In the event of strong winds organizers reserve the right to adjust the route for everyone’s safety.

If lightning is anticipated the organizers reserve the right to delay until the danger passes – thank you for your understanding.

IN EVENT OF LIGHTNING OCCURRING WHILST OUT ON THE COURSE:

  • Do not shelter under a tree during a lightning storm.
  • If you cannot find shelter and a lightning storm is close by, the Met Office advises: "squat close to the ground, with hands on knees and head tucked between them. Try to touch as little of the ground as possible; do not lie down on the ground."

FINISH

Once you cross the line, please keep moving along to prevent congestion and to collect your medal. More water will be available as well.

PRIZE CEREMONY

All awards will be based on gun time / first past the post, not chip time. The ceremony will take place at approx. 12pm - 12.15.  Please stay and support your fellow athletes even if you have not won a trophy this year.

Trophies will be awarded for overall 1st and 2nd for male and female.  There will be no age group awards however you will be able to see what position you came in your category.
